Dog DNA storage

The Genefast laboratory is accredited by the ITALIAN KENNEL CLUB for the storage and preservation of biological samples and any DNA analysis for the canine species. The required Exams and ENCI instructions are listed below.

The request to deposit a biological sample by the Italian Kenel Club Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana – ENCI means that a biological sample for your dog must be shipped to one of the accredited laboratories. Once in the laboratory, the biological sample will be stored and will remain at the disposal of the Italian Kennel Club for the next 10 years.

Parental Analysis

The analysis of parentage is a genetic analysis performed on DNA extracted from the blood of the animal. This analysis serves to verify that the Parenthood of a puppy is actually that declared.

For this reason the analysis involves comparing the genetic profiles submitted by the father and the mother which must always be compatible with those of the puppy.

The genetic profile includes evaluation of 21 microsatellites (plus amelogenin for confirmation of sex) according to profiles ISAG 2008 for the canine species.

Microsatellites used are: AHT121, FH2054,AHTk253, AHTk211, CXX279, INRA21, REN162C04, AHTh171, AHTh260 REN105L03 REN54P11, REN64E19 REN169O18 AHTH130, AHT137, AMELOGENIN, REN169D01, FH2848, REN247M23, INU005, INU030, INU055.

SENDING SAMPLES AND METHOD OF WITHDRAWAL
The EDTA blood sample (anticoagulant) should be taken by a vet and shipped together with a list of the exams required (click here) previously completed and signed by a vet phlebotomist, and proof of payment in advance is required.

DISPATCH OF SAMPLES
For shipment of samples, the procedure is as follows:

– make a withdrawal of 0.5/1 ml EDTA whole blood for each of the subjects to be tested. The array is best represented by EDTA whole blood.

– fill out the application, check the analysis that you want performed, and then affix the stamp and signature of the veterinarian phlebotomist.

– proceed with the shipment by post (registered mail or expedited priority) or with your tracked courier

– make the prepayment of the services required and attach the receipt to the accounting package to be shipped.

HOW TO STORE THE SAMPLE AFTER COLLECTION WAITING SHIPMENT
Genefast advises customers to ship their samples at the beginning of the week. If it is not possible to send the biological sample immediately, it is recommended that it be kept refrigerated up to 3 days after collection; beyond this limit, we recommend freezing the specimen.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SAMPLE HAS BEEN SENT?
Once the sample has been delivered to the laboratory, it will be the same lab to give due notice of filing to ENCI and, where appropriate, the outcome of the analysis of parentage. The breeder owner will be sent a receipted invoice and the document relating to the deposit and/or certificate of parentage later that month.
